This article will explain how to check and clean a thermostatic cartridge in a 22-32-42 valve.
Why should I clean my thermostatic cartridge
|

A) Screen blocked by rust
|

B) Screens block by mineral build up
|

C) Clean screens
|
Hot water enters through the cartridge bottom screen, cold water through the cartridge top screen as showing on picture A. Rust, mineral build up (pictured A and B) or debris can restrict the flow of hot or cold water. In severe cases it can reduce or increase the mix temperature coming out of the valve.
Depending on the minerals your water contain, cleaning thermostatic cartridge (with exposed screens) may be needed from time to time and may resolve temperature issues.
**Note: Pictures of cartridges above are for reference only, they can come in different sizes and shapes.

The water supply shut off valves must be turned off- see article How to safely shut off a Kitchen or Bathroom Faucet/Shower
- This article requires that the cartridge be already removed from the valve. If it's not, you can view these articles:
- Recommended tools: A recipient that can hold the cartridge, a soft bristle brush (like a toothbrush) and vinegar.
- We recommend to cover the drain to make sure no parts are lost during the process.
- Soak the cartridge in a recipient filled with a solution of 1/2 water and 1/2 vinegar for a few hours, preferably overnight if you can.
- Rinse the cartridge under clear water.
- If there are still residues on the screen, you can use a soft bristle brush to remove them. You don't want to remove or break the screens, they act as filters.
- If the issue is not resolved, try cleaning the hot and cold stop valves or contact US.
