2 Handle Thermostatic Valve Maintenance REP22-32 OLD

 

 

This article will explain how to clean or remove the cartridges and check valves on a thermostatic 2 handle valve (prior Oct 2008)

Preparation:

Important: Turn off the water supply at the faucet before starting. You can either turn off the main supply to the house or close the shut-off valves if the faucet is equipped with them. Then open the faucet again to empty it of residual water. Failure to do so could result in flooding or injury. The following instructions explain how to remove the temperature handle and trim plate for the TS collection valve.   • Recommended tools: Handle requires either a 2.5mm allen key or Phillips screwdriver, 13mm ratchet or 1/2", adjustable wrench

Maintenance for the temperature cartridge of the thermostatic valve

  1. Turn off the water sources.
  2. Remove the cap from the handles (8).
  3. Remove the handles (6) by unscrewing the assembly screws (7).
  4. Unscrew the cap screw (4) and assembly screw (3) of the decorative plate (2) and remove it.
  5. Unscrew the sleeves (5)
  6. Unscrew the cartridge (1) by using the hexagonal nut.

a. For valves 1/2, there is a brass spacer (9) which must be withdrawn by unscrewing the set screw (10) on the side.

  1. Inspect the temperature cartridge (1). According to the condition of the temperature cartridge, clean it or replace it.
  2. Screw the temperature cartridge (1) Tighten moderately (make sure that there is no wire from the mesh overlapping the 0-ring).
  3. Adjust the temperature:

a.  Open the water sources.

b. Insert the handle (6) (without screwing) .

c. Test the water temperature at one exit (shower, spout, etc...). adjust the water temperature by turning the handle (6).

d. Remove the handle (6).

  1. Reassemble the trim of the valve.Take care to position the stop button at twelve o'clock (upwards).

Maintenance of check valve

  1. Turn off water sources
  2. Unscrew the stop valves (3) of the thermostatic valve with a ratchet and a 13 mm socket. Pay attention not to loose the springs (2) and the pistons (1).
  3. Soak in a vinegar and hot water solution if there are calcareous deposits.
  4. Inspect the seats of the stop valves in the body of the valve, make sure there are no debris.
  5. Reassemble the stop valves, make sure the flat head screws inside the nut are entirely unscrewed.
