How to install R940551 extension

You received this installation kit because your valve was installed at a depth in the wall that prevented you from installing your handle.
Additional Information
- This Extension Kit is for Apothecary and Tenerife trims only installed with the 1005N valve.
- Available in 6 finishes: R94055160ULB - R94055161STN - R94055162PN - R94055163APC - R94055166AG - R94055169MB
- The extension will provide a 1 inch extension
- Basic Install Dimension: This is measured from the back of the valve to the finished wall and includes the extension: 3 ¼” min- 4 1/4:” max
Preparation: |
- Always shut off the main water supply to valve before servicing
- Tools required:
- Philips Head Screwdriver or 5/32" hex wrench for handle installation (depending on your model)
- Thermometer (for setting up temperature)

Parts to uninstalled or discard |
This installation requires that parts 4, 5, 6 and 7 be removed from the previous installation, leaving only the valve body in the wall, see picture below
- 4. Pull out and disassemble by unthreading 4a, 4b and 4c from one another. Discard 4a, we will use the Short Sleeve (2) provided in the extension kit box
- 5 & 6: Remove and keep. Use cutting knife if silicone was applied.
- 7: Pull out and discard, we will use the Long Sleeve (1) provided in the extension kit box
- 8: Pull to remove and keep
This should be the starting point for the extension installation |
Steps to installation |
Step 1. Unscrew the Long sleeve (1) from the Short sleeve (2) provided in the extension box |
Step 2. Screw the Long sleeve (1) on the valve all the way until it stops. There will be some threads from the valve body still showing. Picture is for reference only |
Step 3. Take the faceplate ring and oring (4b & 4c) you disassembled from your original trim box and thread it to the Short sleeve (2) provided in the extension box |
Step 4. Install the decorative face plate escutcheon. Don't forget the double-sided gasket (6) at the back. |
Step 5. Thread the new faceplate ring/sleeve assembly on the Long sleeve (1) until the ring (4c) rests flat against the decorative escutcheon plate and provides a good seal. |
Step 6. Insert the brass adapter assembly over the cartridge inside the valve. Remove and keep the screw for handle installation but make sure the washer is present |
Step 6. Setting the temperature to 100 F (38 C).

S Step 7. Carefully remove the handle without rotating it and install the temperature limit stop with the red dot at 12 o’clock. |
Step 8. Slide the handle back on with the push button at 12 o’clock. To secure the handle:

When installed correctly there should be a gap of 1/16" (1mm) between the handle and the sleeve.
