Replacing the Cartridges in a pressure balanced valve (prior to Oct 2008)

This article will explain how to replace the cartridge and balancing spool on a pressure balanced valve for models prior to Oct 2008
Preparation:

Important: Turn off the water supply at the faucet before starting. You can either turn off the main supply to the house or close the shut-off valves if the faucet is equipped with them. Then open the faucet again to empty it of residual water. Failure to do so could result in flooding or injury.

  • Recommended tools: Handle requires either a 2.5mm allen key or Phillips screwdriver, adjustable wrench

  1. Shut off water supply.
  2. Remove the handle (9) or (17) by unscrewing the screw located underneath the screw cap (11) snap on or (19) screw on
  3. Unscrew dome (8) or (16).
  4. Unscrew the brass nut holding the cartridge (7).
  5. Remove cartridge and replace with new one #5 and #6 (green) **(12) cycle cartridge is not available anymore. You should have received (6) green + (8) + (9) for replacement.
  6. Use the new holding brass nut (7) provided with the shipment.
  7. Should there not be enough threads available to screw the new brass nut, unscrew the decorative sleeve (3) about 2 threads which will allow you to screw the new brass nut in place.

VERY IMPORTANT: While repositioning the new cartridge in place, make sure it is properly positioned in place. The 2 pins at the back should be inserted in the preset hole at the bottom of the valve; the o'rings should be well set in place and in good shape.
