Why do I need an escutcheon ?

The main reason would be to cover up holes that were pre-drilled and aren’t being used, creating a more appealing look. They are usually used with kitchen or single hole bathroom faucets.

What type of escutcheon do I need?

There are 2 types of escutcheons, 4-inch and 8-inch. The names refer to the center to center measurements in inches between the 2 outer holes of your sink or basin.

These escutcheons are used on sinks or basins that have 3 pre-drilled holes where the center to center outer holes measurement (D) is 4 inches. They come in oval or rectangle shape.

These escutcheons are used on sinks or basins that have 3 pre-drilled holes where the center to center outer holes measurement (D) is 8 inches. They come in oval or rectangular shape.

Preparation:

Recommended Tools:

  • Measuring tape
  • String

Instructions:

How do I find the right escutcheon for my faucet?
Step 1:

Measure the center to center distance between the 2 outer holes of your sink or basin (D).

This will determine whether you need a 4“ or 8” escutcheon plate.

Step 2

Measure the diameter of the shank (A) or, if there are 2 threaded rods, measure the outer distance between the 2.

**You can also find this information on your faucet's specification sheet.

Make a note of this measurement.

TIPS:  If you have difficulties measuring the diameter of the shank (A), you can wrap a string around it, cut it and replicate a circle on a piece of paper to measure the diameter. Or if the faucet is not installed, you could unscrew the fastening nut (B) until it comes out and measure the inside diameter.

Step 3

Measure the diameter of the faucet base (or base plate) (C). To help, wrap a string around it, cut it and replicate a circle on a piece of paper to measure the widest  diameter.

Make a note of this measurement.

Step 4

Look up for the 4-inch or 8-inch escutcheon specification as per your needs and match it with the measurements you gathered following these rules:

  • Shank diameter (A) must be smaller than the escutcheon hole diameter (E)
  • Base diameter (C) must be larger than the escutcheon hole diameter (E) but smaller than the width measurement (F)
