Freestanding Tub Filler reinstall procedure

This procedure explains how to properly reinstall the freestanding tub filler to address temperature adjustment issues related to an improper installation.

Symptoms:

Temperature handle turned clockwise = boiling water

Temperature handle turned counterclockwise = very cold water

Not possible to get lukewarm water, go from extremely hot to cold.

This reinstallation procedure is indicated in cases where the hot and cold supply to the thermostatic cartridge is reversed. Meaning cold water enters the hot side of the cartridge and hot water enters the cold side.

Solution:
Option 1

Reverse the hot and cold supplies to the rough body under the floor, if you have access and if these supplies are only used to feed this faucet.

Preparation:

Important: Turn off the water supply at the faucet before starting. You can either turn off the main supply to the house or close the shut-off valves if the faucet is equipped with them. Then open the faucet again to empty it of residual water. Failure to do so could result in flooding or injury.

  • Recommended tools: 2.5mm allen key, towel, may need plumber's grease

You can grease them as needed. *Note that the positioning of the spout when inserting the trim into the rough is meant to align the hot-cold tubes of the faucet to the hot-cold water outlets of the rough.
