SERVICING U.1833 cartridge

First: steam and water on a new installation coming out the spout is venting- and is normal – not a cartridge issue. Turn down the temperature until it stops.

When to change the cartridge: If the water leaks all the time when the handle is in the true off position, is the only time to change the cartridge.\

Shut water supply to the faucet off: Important: Turn off the water supply at the faucet before starting. You can either turn off the main supply to the house or close the shut-off valves if the faucet is equipped with them. Then open the faucet again to empty it of residual water. Failure to do so could result in flooding or injury. 

Remove the screw cover cap
Remove the 2.5 screw that goes through the handle into the cartridge
Remove handle assembly- see below exploded- without removing the ‘boss’ that is unfinished inside the dome.
Pictures show the boss removed- don’t make that mistake
There is a retaining 22mm nut that holds the cartridge in- remove with a standard wrench
Rotate the stem to the closed position- it is a dual action- so off is in between the 2 open positions( open-close -open )
Insert- tighten the retaining nut
Test before replacing the handle assembly
After testing- install the handle assembly with the handle at the 12 o’clock position
