Shaws: Allia Sinks Care and Maintenance
CARE AND USE OF SHAWS FIRECLAY AND ALLIA FIRECLAY SINKS
Fireclay material is fired at 2264 degrees Fahrenheit, fusing anti-acid glaze to fireclay material. This is alkali and acid resistant, and repels stains, scratches, and dings and allows the use of abrasive cleaners.
All Shaw's kitchen sinks are traditional products, handmade now just like the originals at the turn of the century. Because of the design, the sink tends to be flat with little drainage. To avoid water spotting, wipe out the sink bottom after use.
All Allia kitchen sinks are handmade, and are a more modern shape with drainage designed in the bowl. Wiping the bowl to avoid spotting is recommended.
Everyday usage of abrasives or abrasive pads will not harm the surface on either the Shaws or Allia products.
If you would like to use a milder but effective cleaner, we have "Astonish" cleaner that will remove any black marks from pots and pans and is also good for general cleaning of the sinks.
Never drop a heavy pan or kitchen utensil in the sink to avoid chipping. All fireclay products are tough and chip resistant, but not chip proof. Please use care in washing heavy pots and pans or any kitchen item that if dropped might cause an impact chip. If chipping does occur, the fireclay will not rust under the glaze, and there is a repair kit that will fill in the chip.
